Impressions from the Salone del Mobile 2019 – Milan
The Bruno Wickart team has once again brought back many impressions from the Salone del Mobile 2019 – Milano. Below are the new products from our manufacturers:Salone del Mobile 2019 – VITRA innovations
Vitra is showing four scenes during this year’s Salone del Mobile. Equipped with new products by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Antonio Citterio, Konstantin Grcic and Hella Jongerius, they provide insights into four different lifestyles.Vitra Eames Plastic Chairs & Eames Fiberglass ChairsTheChair of a Century
In 2019, Vitra is introducing a new color palette for the Eames shell chairs, combining two product lines that have long belonged together: the Eames Plastic Chairs and the Eames Fiberglass Chairs. Extensive research and analysis processes have resulted in a harmonious palette that emphasizes the connection between the two product groups. The result is a comprehensive collection of colors that emphasize the characteristics of the materials. With the relaunch of the Fiberglass Chairs and the continuation of production of the Plastic Chairs, Vitra now offers more than 100,000 possible combinations.Vitra Eames Plastic Chairs & Eames Fiberglass Chairs – new colors
Charles & Ray Eames, 1950
In collaboration with the Eames family, represented by the Eames Office in Los Angeles, California, Vitra has revised the color palette of the seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs as part of extensive research. The new, carefully developed seat shell colors are designed to show off the material to its best advantage in a wide variety of environments. Groups of neutral, medium and bright colors form the palette of 14 contemporary colors for the Eames Plastic Chairs. In addition, the color selection for the Fiberglass Chairs has been expanded to include the three new colors Dark Ochre, Light Ochre and Red.Eames Fiberglass Armchairs
Charles & Ray Eames, 1950 After a long interruption, Vitra has been producing the legendary chairs by Charles and Ray Eames in the original material fiberglass again since 2018. It started with the Side Chairs, now followed by the Armchairs with their iconic armrest shells.Eames Plastic Chairs – LAR
Charles & Ray Eames, 1950 With its compact dimensions, the new Plastic Chair LAR is also suitable for use in smaller rooms and, thanks to its choice of colors for the seat shell, upholstery and base, it can be integrated into a wide variety of ambient styles. The steel wire base frame achieves maximum strength with a minimum of material and was soon given the charming nickname „Cat’s Cradle“ because of its shape.Vitra Grand Relax
Antonio Citterio, 2019 Grand Relax is a luxurious recliner that combines maximum comfort with compact dimensions and a classically restrained design language. When sitting down, the user sinks into soft cushions and is guided into a resting position by an adjustable and lockable synchronized mechanism that is concealed in the armchair. The back section is edged on the outside with embossed split leather and forms a kind of shield that defines the contours of the chair and embraces the user. This gives Grand Relax a compact and inviting appearance.Vitra Vlinder Sofa
Hella Jongerius, 2018 Vlinder combines the archetypal shape of a comfortable sofa with a fabric cover designed precisely for its shape. The upholstery fabric bears Jongerius‘ unmistakable signature and sets new standards in modern weaving technology: eight colors with yarns in two different thicknesses form the different layers for seven different jacquard weaves.Vitra Bovist – Update
Hella Jongerius, 2019 Bovist is a decorative floor cushion, stool and ottoman in one. The cover consists of an expressive fabric pattern in an elaborate jacquard weaving technique. This pattern and its color scheme are based on the multi-layered design of the Vlinder sofa.Vitra Eames Segmented Tables Dining
Charles & Ray Eames, 1964 The Eames Segmented Table Dining is characterized by an interplay of dimensions, materials and colors that turn the legendary classic into a homely and elegant dining table. With its round or boat-shaped table tops in various sizes, it is an invitation to free and informal seating arrangements in dining rooms of all shapes and sizes.Fritz Hansen
New from Fritz Hansen: Lounge Chair JH97
EMBRACING MODERN LIFE
The result of the latest collaboration between Fritz Hansen and Jaime Hayon, the JH97 lounge chair is the perfect balance between past and future. Combining classic craftsmanship techniques with modern innovation design, Fritz Hansen’s Lounge Chair JH97 is a contradiction in terms: classic yet modern, bold yet simple, light yet solid. „We wanted to create a modern lounge chair that was light and sculptural in its expression; combining Fritz Hansen’s know-how with Jaime Hayon’s sculptural design language,“ explains Christian Andresen, Head of Design at Fritz Hansen. The apotheosis of a lounge chair, the new iteration draws inspiration from nature: Inspired by the pelican, which is shaped for flight with long, broad wings, a gently curved body and a distinctive bill, the JH97 lounge chair conveys a similar lightness that their strength. Perfectly proportioned with a solid oak frame and available in natural or stained oak and black ash, the open, low silhouette has a contemporary feel despite its classic origins. Elegant from all angles, the decorative joints with gently rounded edges are assembled by hand in keeping with Danish design and craftsmanship traditions. Generous armrests – wide and flat – embrace and support the body, as does the curved backrest, which is angled in an upright position to ensure comfort even when sitting for long periods. To contribute to a relaxed sitting experience, the cushions are generously sized and upholstered with removable textile or leather covers so that you can easily change their appearance.Shelving: Planer™ Shelving
Design: Paul McCobb, 1953 Our new shelving series is the latest addition to Fritz Hansen’s Planter collection and forever embodies modern design with multifunctional appeal. Designed in the 1950s by the late Paul McCobb, the – Planner™ shelf is a series of units that can display and store objects. „Planner™ shelving balances the graphic expression of Paul McCobb with the classic craftsmanship of Fritz Hansen,“ says Christian Andresen, Head of Design at Fritz Hansen, of the new addition. „It’s elegant in its simplicity, but it’s unashamedly attention-grabbing in a room.“ The Bauhaus-inspired lines of each unit are crafted from durable powder-coated steel with a matte finish, and the joints are hand-welded and gently rounded to soften the overall expression. Diagonal bars on the two larger designs lend additional support and create visual interest on the negative space that follows. The shelves are cut from natural oak and beveled at the edges to fit seamlessly into the frame – one of many small but significant details. Named for its ability to help shape the design of a room, the simple but striking shelf is available in three versions, each in different heights and configurations. Ideal for both private and professional spaces, Planner™ shelving can be arranged to suit both tastes and needs – as a bookshelf, a display unit for favorite objects, or even as a room divider where multiples can be joined together. In stores from September 2019.PLANNER™ PM02 TABLE LIGHT by Fritz Hansen
Fritz Hansen’s newest member of the Planner™ family is a lamp that is simple and small, but makes a big impression.
Our Planner™ series, consisting of reissued 1950s designs by the late American designer Paul McCobb, gains a new member this season: the Planner™ PM02 table lamp.
The thoughtful, practical design proves how beautiful simplicity can be, emitting indirect light from its hand-blown frosted glass shade to create a warm, atmospheric glow. Restrained in its expression, the luminaire stands on a three-legged base made of shiny brass or matt powder-coated steel, creating an elegant contrast to the tall, cylindrical shade.

USM Salone del Mobile 2019: Exhibition stand
Let’s make this place together!
Where exactly is the boundary between working and living today? Last year, USM and UNStudio sought and found an answer to this question. To our surprise, we discovered that very few people want to stick to the separation between living and working areas. We enjoy our work more when we can decide freely and independently where we pursue our professional activities. This creates a third living space between these two areas, which we use together with people we don’t know: Co-working spaces, cafés, hotel lobbies and libraries.Zanotta

AVA table from ZOOM by MOBIMEX
Design Iria Degen Interiors AG, Zurich Sculptural, decorative and modular. As a well thought-out addition to the existing Mobimex collection, Iria Degen designed a playful yet straightforward sculpture as the base for the new AVA table, which can be flexibly adapted to any tabletop shape. With AVA, Zoom by Mobimex presents a new solid wood table collection. The eye-catching surface structure of the base frame, which is available in various finishes, creates a harmonious dialog with the texture of the table top. The sculptural table can be freely positioned and combined in different ways, and the high-quality material and precise workmanship guarantee a stylish highlight, both at home and in a more technical office environment technical office environment. Mobimex stands for top quality, sustainability, simple shapes and understatement. The AVA table, created by the Zurich designer, embodies these values with its timeless touch, the freedom of form of the table tops and the high-quality variety of materials. At the same time, Mobimex is adding an emotional dimension to its range. The materials used are at the forefront: high-quality, embossed and polished sheet metal made from various copper alloys create an elegant contrast to the solid wood top. The surface treatment of these sheets is closely based on the natural oxidation and patination processes. There is a choice of three different embossed and polished finishes, while the use of powder-coated sheet metal offers a more neutral alternative. AVA is just as suitable as a dining table as it is as a work, meeting or conference table. Direct cable routing from the floor tank through each individual leg allows invisible electrification of the equipment on the table surface. Mobimex is presenting the „Boomerang“ table shape for the first time in Milan as an iconic design that is nevertheless suitable for everyday use. With this combination, not only does the AVA base frame look like a sculpture, but the table as a whole is a statement of a special kind. AVA is available in oak, core ash, elm, sycamore, European walnut, black walnut and smoked oak.Dimensions

LaPalma and the world of the outdoors
At the Salone del Mobile, LaPalma presented a new collection that revolves around the world of the outdoors. „We have always worked with materials such as stainless steel and aluminum, which have already been used to create our furnishings. Outdoor is therefore a natural conceptual turning point. Today, we spend more time outdoors than indoors and our experience in working with materials has inevitably led us to listen to the needs of this world. We have taken up the outdoor challenge with the aim of developing products that guarantee the same performance as our indoor furniture,“ explains Romano Marcato, founder and owner of Lapalma together with his brother Dario. Before any idea, gesture or design, Lapalma loves to remember the deep respect for nature. And not only because nature and its amazing radiance of shapes, materials and colors have been the great representatives of the Lapalma style but also because the company has favored the awareness of virtuous, eco-friendly and sustainable processes. Fully recyclable materials, self-sufficient energy sources and photovoltaic panels meet all production requirements. The outdoor collection has evolved by expressing an idea that has given new shape to the work and home environment and large walk-through spaces. Two fundamental principles, maximum linearity and maximum lightness, ensure real moments of relaxation, well-being and encounters in the midst of nature and near water. Like nature in the forest, the outdoor world of Lapalma has taken root, and it is lush and very fresh. It starts with the PANCO table, while SEELA and ARIA chairs, JEY and YO small tables and KIPU bags thrive everywhere. It already feels like wandering in a garden of wonders.Outdoor chair: IDA
Anderssen & Voll| 2019 It seemed impossible that a tubular aluminum construction could become a silk ribbon and create such a sinuous and daring curve. It seemed impossible until Lapalma, thanks to 30 years of research into materials, produced the new outdoor chair IDA, the new outdoor chair from Anderssen & Voll. Almost a reinterpretation of the classic café chair, it surprises with its metal frame combined with the comfort of a 3D mesh that embraces nature. An invitation to break away from strict modernity.PANCO
Romano Marcato| 2019 It was created as a new addition to the PANCO collection, enhancing the intensity of a simple, unmistakable style, even amidst the freshness of nature. In the outdoor version, the table reintroduces the combination of steel and wood, with black and white lacquered metal legs and a resistant iroko table with a warm appeal. The convivial atmosphere is enhanced by the bench, which is made from the same materials. Robust and comfortable, it disappears elegantly under the table, enhancing the overall harmonious effect.WITTMANN: What did we show in Milan
What we showed on these eventful days is also breezy, but well grounded: The gentle swing of Vuelta was to be found in Milano-finalmente! -on four chair legs for the first time. Jaime Hayon and Wittmann bring the most sought-after shape of recent years to the dining table. And since Hayon is never short of productivity and inventiveness, the right dining table is also included. Along with some other colorful new additions to the Wittmann Hayon Workshop collection. Why not-life can take on a little color. The new models by Jaime Hayon and Sebastian Herkner are dressed in velvet and linen. Wood, brass and marble were added to the mix. The fact that a complete Fine Dining Room is now available for Vuelta fans was a notable highlight. After all, it’s finally here – the Vuelta Dining Chair. And with it comes a matching table. Speaking of tables – the little ones among the new additions also deserve a lot of attention. The Helice Table and Sticks Table are delicate and subtle, but manage effortlessly to be both decorative and sophisticated objects. More about all the new products that Wittmann showed in Milan here. (link) Now they are ready to march out into the world and live out their esprit there.Vuelta FD Chair
Putting the design, comfort and formal independence of an armchair on four legs and turning it into a chair that is both aesthetically and functionally convincing is a high art of design. With Vuelta, Jaime Hayon has created an unmistakable look that – translated into perfect craftsmanship by Wittmann – is unrivaled in terms of desirability. The curiosity, perseverance and experience of the designer and manufacturer have now made it possible to bring the popular attributes of Vuelta to the dining table. Leaning against the typical Vuelta quilting, you sit comfortably on a seat cushion equipped with a pocket spring core.
The curve of the backrest shell slopes gently forwards and becomes an armrest. The Vuelta Dining Chair stands on graceful round tubular legs in black or – very elegant – in satin brass. As both Hayon and Wittmann stand for diversity, the seat shell can also choose another solution for ground contact: Although four feet provide stability, they converge in the middle at a point that allows the seat to swivel. A pleasant effect that brings movement to informal table settings. The metal core of the frame is encased in wood, which – in true Hayon style – can also be painted in any color of the rainbow.
VUELTA FD TABLE
Design: Jaime Hayon
A table that brings people together. Its inviting length and indented table legs allow a large circle of friends to gather around it. There is enough space for everything that should take place on a good table. The table top in thick veneer gives it a classic elegance.
Incidentally, its generous curve on the underside makes the Vuelta Fine Dining Table the perfect partner for the Vuelta Dining Chair, whose slanted armrests – naturally – nestle against the table as if made for it.

Cassina’s furnishing novelties reflect the continuous evolution of the Made in Meda offer and are presented every year at the international trade fair IMM Cologne and in its own showroom during the Salone del Mobile in Milan, in warm and welcoming spaces in line with the image and atmospheres of the individual brand stores. The new products underline the philosophy of the present and the vision of a company that always looks to the future while keeping an eye on its origins, the authenticity of the projects and the relationship with architecture, establishing a constant dialog between the past, present and future. Cassina’s designer cabinets, chairs, armchairs and sofas are elegant and versatile furniture systems that not only enrich and modernize the iconic pieces from the LC Collection and the I Maestri collection, but also include the modernist forms of the Simon Collezione and the extraordinary expressions of the I Contemporanei collection. Among the most important representatives from the international world of design and architecture are Patricia Urquiola – artistic director of Cassina -, Piero Lissoni, Philippe Starck, Patrick Norguet, Jaime Hayon, Patrick Jouin, Rowan and Erwan Bouroullec and Konstantin Grcic. It is a unique and diverse sequence that emphasizes the fundamental balance between comfort, aesthetics and function as well as the indissoluble interweaving of traditional craftsmanship and technological progress. Designer furniture that stands out and works in the setting either individually or through simple combinations based on different decorative tastes and lifestyles that are constantly evolving.A refined haute couture project characterized by elegant details that refer to high sartorial art. Particular attention has been paid to the stitching around the backrest/armrest, which creates a refined dart from which a zipper extends to the base of the sofa, just like a dress. Its look is further enriched by a grosgrain ribbon profile around the seat cushions, available in black, white, gray and caffelatte. Dress-Up! offers a wide range of elements that can be combined in numerous compositions or used individually. Its geometric lines and asymmetrical elements, such as the integrated chaise lounge, make it unique and versatile. The backrest/armrest with an open tilt emphasizes its inviting shape. The combined poufs, available in two sizes, feature the same grosgrain ribbon detail, as well as a vertical zipper along the side. To complete this living area product family, the sofa can be complemented with a range of side tables and sophisticated cushions that also feature the grosgrain ribbon profile.
Cassina: COTONE SOFA
The Cotone family is extended with a new, inviting sofa characterized by the same special structure made of extruded aluminium. Available in four colors: grey-blue, red, champagne and graphite. The seemingly simple structure with its minimalist appearance conceals an industrially complex internal composition. The soft padding of the cushions, on the other hand, creates a welcoming nest that invites you to relax, while the free combination of the colors of the structure and the wide choice of leather or fabric upholstery allow you to create a contemporary sofa to suit all tastes. Available in the elegant modular version with a low backrest, as well as in a one-, two- and three-seater version with a high, inviting backrest. Thanks to a mechanism in the armrest, the side cushions can be moved, making the sofa even more comfortable. The collection is completed by an armchair with a uniform format that perfectly matches both models.
DE SEDE DS-262
DESIGN: Stefan Heiliger It’s all about the pivot point The DS-262 armchair surprises with unexpected flexibility: the architecture of the armchair is based on two parts, each of which can be rotated around its own axis. Depending on how the two armchair sections are rotated in relation to each other, the lower section can be used as an armrest, footrest or practical shelf. With its generous design, the swivel armchair rises up like a sublime sculpture in the room. Elegant stitching and fine piping all around underline the impressive look. Designer Stefan Heiliger was guided by a fundamental idea during development: He wanted to create a functional armchair that could be operated differently. Previous functional armchairs have a footrest that can be pulled up or an armrest that can be folded out individually. DS-262 goes one step further: in a revolutionary way, the armchair fulfills the desired function as an armrest or footrest with the right pivot point.EN SEDE DS-163
DESIGN: Virginia Harper & Babak Hakakian The DS-163 round armchair is a real invitation to relax: The conical base supports a soft seat shell, which opens upwards invitingly like a blossoming bud. The cuddly design of the armchair radiates infinite comfort. The use of up to 5 mm thick NECK leather underlines the warmth and comfort, and with its extravagant appearance, the DS-163 armchair is an extremely stylish piece of furniture – whether you are enjoying a cocktail in an elegant hotel bar or reading a book in the comfort of your own home. And if you need to change your line of vision to look at new bar guests or to have a quick look at the fireplace, the armchair can be rotated 360 degrees.DE SEDE DS-319
DESIGN: Chen Min & de Sede Design Team A story written by organic triangles The DS-319 sofa pays homage to the origins of geometry: the piece of furniture is based on triangular shapes, which are reflected in the pattern, the base construction and the shape of the seat shell. Whether straight, curved or bent – the Chinese designer Chen Min was inspired by the flexibility of the triangular shape and focuses on a deep synthesis of tradition and modernity. The design is dominated by soft organic lines, which contrast with the strict triangles. The pattern can be further emphasized by individual colour combinations. DS-319 presents itself as a „floating“ sofa and introduces not only an innovative design language, but also a new type of upholstery at de Sede: the model is based on a filigree metal frame, which is covered with a softly upholstered leather cover. The seating comfort achieves top marks thanks to the finely yielding tension and the use of softly resilient foam.DE SEDE DS-344
DESIGN: Bart Van der Heyden & de Sede Design Team, Jonathan HotzBack to the roots
The DS-344 harks back to the legendary de Sede days. The armchair is exceptionally casually upholstered, embodying a lively leather experience. The edges, on the other hand, have a strict appearance; with a surrounding double seam in a piped look, they ensure visual compactness. With its emotional design, the DS-344 lends the room a prestigious character. Whether in the elegant library, the executive office or the living room, DS-344 makes a clear style statement. The manufacture of the leather armchair requires a great deal of refinement. The uniform leather upholstery and the strict edging require the highest level of craftsmanship – which the de Sede craftsmen demonstrate with their masterful skills. DS-344 is technically based on the already successfully established DS-343 armchair. Like its big brother, the DS-344 is a real balm for the spine. The seat is extended up to the height of the pelvis, so that when you lean back, you only move backwards from pelvic height. This improves posture and prevents the shearing forces that normally occur. An intelligent mechanism ensures that the chair moves automatically with the body. This creates an unprecedented sitting sensation.DE SEDE DS-788
DESIGN: de Sede Design Team, Ulrich Kössl Stone could hardly be more beautiful The DS-788 dining table embodies pure pleasure. Instead of table legs, the stone table top made of marble, quartz or granite rests on two sides made of the same natural raw material. The carefully finished edges and the exclusive material make this unique object an extravagant eye-catcher.DS-788 is available in a choice of lengths and widths. This flexibility means that the table model can be stylishly integrated into any setting.DE SEDE DS-840
DESIGN: GECKELER MICHELSAesthetic compactness
How can you fit maximum functionality into a minimal sofa design? The designer duo GECKELER MICHELS, who are known for their strong awareness of international aesthetics, prove it to us with the DS-840 model. The external dimensions of the DS-840 are compact, which means that the model also fits into smaller rooms. The upholstery, on the other hand, is generous and inviting. It promises not only exceptional seating comfort, but also exclusive aesthetics. Thanks to the very casual leather upholstery, all eyes are on the high-quality de Sede leather – for a pure leather experience. The special feature of the floor-free model lies in its hidden functional options. Using two handles, the armrests can be folded down to a horizontal surface, allowing you to lie or sleep in a wonderfully relaxed position. The soft upholstery of the armrests turns them into comfortable pillows. DS-840 consists of various models, which can be extended to form a family as required. Whether single, two or three-seater, stool or ottoman, the model variants fulfill almost every furnishing wish. As an option, the seat height of the models can be flexibly adjusted using height-adjustable feet.DE SEDE DS-5020
DESIGN: Simon Busse Dressed up The DS-5020 side table is a striking eye-catcher: the elegant table construction, which is available in two different heights, has a cylindrical shape and is wrapped all around in high-quality leather. Designer Simon Busse found the inspiration for this object in the world of fashion, where the design process resulted in a striking resemblance to the sleeve of a man’s shirt. To accentuate this, the Stuttgart designer integrated a high-quality fastening button as a kind of „cufflink“. And the gentleman in furniture form was born. The table top completes this exclusivity. It is made of glass or marble and elegantly embedded in the construction. DS-5020 therefore always looks aesthetically pleasing and proves to be an elegant accompaniment to a sofa, armchair or lounge chair.FLOU at this year’s Salone del Mobile 2019
Interior design as a function of light: because light is the key to the interpretation of the Flou innovations for 2019. A light in which white dominates in combination with sparkling splashes of color, resulting in spaces and situations that radiate verve, vitality and cheerfulness.Double bed: KOI
A double bed with clean and essential lines that immediately brings to mind discreet and unostentatious luxury. The rigorous shape of the headboard is framed by the refined metal structure that extends to the floor and forms the bed legs; the vertically quilted, skillfully finished fabric gives the bed an inviting and chic design.
Available as a double bed with a fixed frame, bed base, electrically adjustable frame or with the new „Leonardo“ frame. Fully removable cover in fabric or leather. Details of the headboard in shiny black nickel or matt burnished.
Sofa: MYPLACE
The Myplace sofa fully interprets the designer’s idea: to live with passion. Three different seat depths meet the highest demands in terms of relaxation and comfort. The arrangement can be conventional, i.e. the sofas can be placed against the wall or „fan-shaped“, making them the central focal point of the living room. The freedom of design for the seats, armrests and backrests – twenty elements in total – allows a wide range of configuration options.
The sofa is available with a fully removable fabric or leather cover.
Sofa: BINARIO
Straight 2-seater or 3-seater sofa with an elegant and calming character. The special „double foot“ ensures a certain distance from the floor and softens the otherwise rather sober lines of the sofa. The moderate seat depth and the low height of the backrest indicate a careful study of proportions and guarantee exceptional comfort. The large feather cushions can be positioned as desired, echoing the detail of the protruding stitching around the perimeter of the sofa’s armrests and giving the whole a refined, elegant and distinctive look.
the 2-seater (170×85 cm) or 3-seater (242×85 cm) sofa is available with a fully removable fabric or leather cover. Feet with a matt burnished finish.
Bench seat: NEW BOND
The NEW BOND bench is the ideal complement to the bed of the same name and also displays the same undeniably impeccable sewing skills. The upholstered body is supported by slender, cylindrical metal legs and complemented by cushions finished with accurate, visible stitching. Body and upholstery take up the motif that also characterizes the bed; they are „connected“ by special belts in leather, tone-on-tone or contrasting in colour: a design detail that highlights their sophistication.

The drawers are characterized by extensive variants with pocket emptiers, boxes or storage trays; the shelves and fronts are in wood or porcelain stoneware in the Concrete and Liquorice finishes or entirely in glass, with or without light, to highlight the contents.
