The Case Study House Program(1945-1966) was unique in the history of American architecture. With the support of Arts & Architecture magazine, the program sought to respond to the post-war building boom with prototypes of modern houses that could be easily replicated and were affordable to the average American.
The case study houses, which were primarily found in the Los Angeles area, included 36 model houses designed by renowned architects such as Richard Neutraraphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles and Ray Eamespierre Koenig, Eero Saarinen, A. Quincy Jones and Ralph Rapson. The brief included using techniques and modern materials that had been developed or improved during the war wherever possible.
The results of the program were to redefine the modern home and have an impact not only in the United States but around the world. This compact guide includes all the Case Study homes with over 150 photos and floor plans, as well as a map showing the location of all the homes, including those that no longer exist.

The Cologne-based book publisher offers a wide range of numerous books. This means that every interested reader can enjoy various works. The family business was founded in 1980. At that time, as today, attention was paid to a well-assorted selection. While the original idea of the company was to sell comics, the basic theme quickly changed. With an initial print run of 40,000 copies, which sold quickly and at an acceptable price, the gap in the market was recognized. Over the years, the product range has been expanded accordingly. However, the core themes have remained the same and are reflected in the art. Initially, it was the books of others that were simply sold. Due to the increasing popularity and success, more books were published themselves. Angelika Taschen, the former wife of the boss Benedikt Taschen, initially worked as an editor and was responsible for publishing the books for many years. Marlene Taschen took over the business in 2017. The company has offices in Germany, the UK, the USA, Spain, France, Hong Kong and Japan.
