Harry Bertoia
Born in Italy and living in America, Harry (Arieto) Bertoia was one of the greatest sculptors and designers of the 20th century. As a fellow student of Florence Schust Knoll at the Cranbook Academy, he entered product design at her request with the Diamond Chair (also known as the Bertoia chair). This unique project immediately became one of the greatest design icons of all time. The curved lattice construction resulted in the perfect fusion of rationalism and organicism, which could be realised with the help of the company’s advanced manufacturing processes.

Franco Albini was one of the greatest masters of Italian architecture. According to Giuseppe Pagano, his work united “austere and poetic fantasies” that endeavoured to dispense with all superfluous elements. His aim was always the essential synthesis of form in space – from his exhibition designs with their graphic, linear spaces to his interiors with their modern emphasis on openness. This approach is also evident in his desk, where the transparency of the glass enhances the opaque, absolute volume of the drawer element, which is held in place by the lustre of the metal structure.
