2026 marks the centenary of Verner Panton’s birth. An anniversary that does not look back nostalgically, but looks forward: to the lasting relevance of a designer who questioned conventions and emotionally charged spaces. Together with Vitra, the Vitra Design Museum and the Panton family, a year-round programme of exhibitions, new materials, limited editions and a special re-edition is being created – a tribute to design as an attitude.

Verner Panton and Vitra – a pioneering partnership

The Panton Chair – an idea becomes reality

Back in the early 1950s, Verner Panton developed the vision of a chair made from a single material and in one piece. After years of intensive development, the first one-piece moulded plastic cantilever chair was created in 1967 in collaboration with Vitra – the Panton Chair.

Panton Chair Limited Edition 2026

To mark the anniversary year, Vitra is launching a limited edition of the Panton Chair together with Verner Panton Design AG. The colours were chosen by the international Vitra community in a public vote – a contemporary dialogue between past and present.

Heart Cone Chair Anniversary Edition 2026

To mark its 100th birthday on 13 February 2026, the Heart Cone Chair will be released in a limited duo-tone version. The sculptural shape and two-tone upholstery underline Panton’s playful approach to emotion, colour and space.

A legacy that lives on

The collaboration between Verner Panton and Vitra developed into a lifelong connection. Even after Panton’s death in 1998, it continued with his family – including re-editions of the Cone Chair, Heart Cone Chair, Amoebe, Amoebe Highback, Visiona Stool and Living Tower.
