Our dream of owning our own home

In this blog series, you will have the opportunity to follow us at regular intervals over the next few months as we take all the steps, considerations and decisions regarding the development and furnishing of our future condominium. You can expect realistic implementation options and we hope to inspire you for your project or current living situation.
We have been living in a renovated rental apartment in Lucerne’s old town for around ten years now. We both happen to work as communications experts for the same Swiss retailer. We have been parents to our daughter Lilou since January last year. Beautiful living has always been important to us. Although we also like to travel and spend a lot of time outdoors in nature. We are neither trained design specialists nor do we have unlimited financial resources that allow us to purchase all our furnishings exclusively from well-known designers and manufacturers.

Furnishings reduced to the essentials, but still suitable for everyday use

We like to describe our style of living as „soft minimalism“. Our interior design is characterized by familiar Scandinavian patterns and warm, earthy colors as well as oak. Simple, tidy and reduced to the essentials, but still suitable for everyday living. In our home you will discover objects from Hay, Muuto, Menu, Ferm Living, Skagerak and Vitra in particular. You will certainly get to know our sources of inspiration even better in the coming articles; a mix of visits to furniture stores, trips to the far north, the Internet, books, magazines and now countless catalogs.

A future home that meets (almost) all our requirements

You have to seize opportunities when they present themselves. We found ourselves in such a situation last February. Within a week, we suddenly had a reservation for a condominium and several bank appointments to finance it behind us. The St. Klemens development in Ebikon (LU) met all our requirements: Close to the city limits and therefore easily accessible by public transport, a spacious floor plan of just under 150m2 and the opportunity to have a say in the finishing down to the smallest detail.

The latter was always important to us. After all, we never wanted to buy an apartment that didn’t meet our expectations. The only compromise we made was the view. But more or less consciously, because our future first floor apartment has an additional 130 square meters of lawn for exclusive use. A dream not only for our little daughter.
However, it will be March 2022 before we move into our apartment. We are planning a few highlights and you can look forward to them just as much as we are.
