The home project: an office room that shouldn’t be one

Is work so important that it should have its own room at home? After all, rooms are otherwise only reserved for us and our children. Before corona, the answer was definitely no. Now, however, working from home is also becoming more important to us – with all the advantages and disadvantages.

Das Eigenheim-Projekt

As we both work in marketing and advertising respectively, we don’t need much more than a laptop for our work, and in the digital age we can manage perfectly well without paper and printers. This additional room should therefore provide an opportunity to work, but also leave room for other uses. To ensure this, we purchased the „Seq“ secretary desk from Mox. A sufficiently large workstation with storage space. From our point of view, that’s all we need at the moment. Also because the room, at just under 16 square meters, doesn’t offer an excessive amount of space without appearing cramped. Our Vitra DAW continues to serve as an office chair. The Flos glo-ball s2 provides light. We have dispensed with a desk lamp for the time being.

A retreat for quiet moments

Das Eigenheim-Projekt

Over the years, we have accumulated a number of books. These and other items such as indirect lighting, a Sonos box and decorative accessories have found their place in a library from Tylko. We already use a kitchen shelf from Tylko and are delighted with the design and quality. Our Hay AAL 92, which currently serves as a nursing chair, will be used as a reading chair in the future.

The highlight is the window wall with the Jansen Art 15 profile, which replaces the actual brick wall and room door. To provide optional privacy here, we have a concealed curtain rail plastered in along the window wall. This allows the window wall to be closed off with an opaque curtain if required. We also fit the hinged doors of the window wall with a drop-down seal that reduces noise to a minimum. This results in a fully-fledged room that can be assigned different uses depending on the situation.
