Cecilie Manz, a leading creator of contemporary design, was born in Denmark in 1972 and has since made a name for herself in the world of design. After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – School of Design in 1997 and studying at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, she founded her own studio in Copenhagen in 1998. In her studio, Manz focuses on the design of industrially manufactured products as well as experimental prototypes and one-off sculptural pieces. Cecilie Manz has received numerous awards, including the Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal in 2011, the Bruno Mathsson Prize in 2009, the Finn Juhl Architecture Prize in 2007 and the Culture Prize of the Danish Crown Prince and Princess in 2014. She was also named Designer of the Year at Maison&Objet in Paris in 2018 and received the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres 2019 in France, as well as lasting honors from the Danish Arts Foundation and the Danish National Bank Foundation. Her approach to design is deeply rooted in the philosophy that work should always be focused on simplicity and the process of creating pure, aesthetic and functional objects. Her work, often described as minimalist and thoughtful, reflects a deep appreciation for material and form and is characterized by clean lines and functionality. Cecilie Manz is known for finding a balance between innovation and traditional Scandinavian design principles in her designs, making her one of the most influential designers of her generation.
