Our emotions are addressed subconsciously by colors and light. Used correctly in combination with existing furniture, great effects can be achieved even with small means. Often, it is only small changes that make your home appear in a new light and create a new feeling of living. Only good light makes you feel good. Colors and light must be used correctly, and furniture and special structures can also be used to make rooms appear smaller or larger. Spatial boundaries can be removed or additionally emphasized. A great effect can be achieved with minimal means. Furnishing your living space so that you feel comfortable is neither a question of size nor a question of money. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a ceiling lamp, wall light or floor lamp: Light creates atmosphere. A good balance between low-contrast and high-contrast lighting creates a cozy atmosphere. This works best with a mixture of three different light sources:

• Backlighting,
• Accent lighting and
• Task lighting.

It is best to choose a ceiling light to illuminate the entire room. Indirect lighting is low-contrast and soft and does not dazzle. The light is distributed relatively evenly throughout the room and hardly casts any shadows. An exclusively softly lit room quickly looks boring and one-dimensional. Selective lighting provides variety and accent lighting used in measured doses draws the eye to special details or collector’s items. Targeted lighting provides light in the places where we concentrate. Free-standing luminaires or spotlights are ideal for creating such high-contrast, targeted light.

Designer lights for the office and home

Depending on the windows and the way the room is used, there is a different lighting concept for each room in the apartment or house, but it always has three basic elements:

• bright ceiling lighting
• indirect lighting
• direct lighting

In some rooms of the home, the additional installation of partial direct lighting can be useful, e.g. in the study or kitchen. The following tips will help you choose the right lighting concept for your individual needs:

Corridor lighting

Many corridors are located inside the home and have no windows, and in the worst case are also long and narrow. – Bright ceiling lighting consisting of one or more exclusive ceiling lights (e.g. the dimmable Meteorite 35 wall and ceiling light from Artemide) or designer ceiling spotlights is the basis for corridor lighting here. – Designer wall luminaires (e.g. the Meteorite 15 Mini LED wall and ceiling luminaire from Artemide) work well as indirect lighting and show the way to the rooms in long corridors. – Direct lighting aimed at the checkroom, e.g. a designer LED spotlight and an elegant designer table lamp (e.g. the Costanza table lamp from Luceplan) on a wardrobe, side table or chest of drawers. – A floor lamp that indirectly illuminates dark corners (e.g. the Block 2 floor and pendant lamp from Röthlisberger), which harmoniously rounds off the hallway lighting, goes well with this.

The living room lighting

– A bright ceiling light should also always be installed in the living room, if possible with a dimmer function, preferably also as an atmospheric designer pendant light (e.g. the Etch Web Pendant pendant light from Tom Dixon). – For reading on the couch or armchair, the living room also needs at least one floor lamp that casts a not too bright but direct light on reading material, knitting or similar (e.g. the Roxxane Leggera 101 CL reading lamp from Nimbus Leuchten). – Depending on the size of the room, indirect lighting from another design table lamp (e.g. the Latern Light Table Lamp from Classicon) is recommended in the heart of the home, on a windowsill, sideboard or side table – and one or two designer wall lights that are switched separately to the ceiling lighting.

The dining room lighting

The central point in the dining room or dining area is the dining table. – Instead of high ceiling lighting, the choice here should be a designer pendant light (e.g. the Beat Wide Pendant pendant light from Tom Dixon) that illuminates the table well. – In addition, it is a good idea to create a cozy basic atmosphere in the dining room using indirectly lit designer table lamps (e.g. from Artemide or Vitra) or dimmable ceiling spotlights (Carrara floor lamp from Luceplan) or a designer floor lamp (e.g. from Myyour).

Study and home office lighting

In addition to the basic elements of ceiling lighting and designer table lamps, a good desk lamp is very important for the study.
