MAGIS AT THE SALONE DEL MOBILE MILANO 2022
Magis stands for „home“, for an unconventional home that will open its doors to the universe of a living culture with uncompromising design during the Salone del Mobile 2022.
The 500 square meter exhibition area in Hall 20 will serve as a stage for Magis, where many new products will be presented: starting with the Officina shelving unit, the new version of the Tambour coffee table with porcelain stoneware top by the Bouroullec brothers, the Big Will table by Philippe Starck in a new version and the Alpina chair, the archetype of sustainability by Barber Osgerby, the Swing wall screen by Ron Gilad, the Aka stool by Konstantin Grcic, the small tables from the Costume upholstery collection by Stefan Diez and the new, sculptural yet bold Riace sofa designed by the Bouroullec brothers.
The absolute protagonist, however, is the Costume sofa by Stefan Diez, which welcomes visitors together with the new Tambour tables at the entrance and showcases its two souls – the home and the contract area – through different combinations and fabrics. The upholstered furniture, which has only recently appeared in the Magis catalog, thus becomes a new flagship of the brand and appears in a creative, unique melting pot that presents contemporary forms of living as a choral narrative.
In the background, hidden by the central wall with the Magis logo, two new lamp collections designed by Brogliato and Traverso are presented: the Lost lamp, which plays with the perfection of the circle, and Bouquet, the small flower vase lamp.
A surprising, bold, but also versatile universe of living that is timeless and therefore democratic. Magis products do not have a single purpose, but interpret style in many ways.
With plastics, metals, fabrics, recyclable and recycled materials, living and contract areas are designed in a multi-faceted way, so that the informal atmosphere flows smoothly into a sophisticated ambience. Tables, upholstered furniture, chairs, bookshelves, small pieces of furniture and accessories can be moved freely from the living room to the office, from the bedroom to the outdoor area, from the kitchen to the bathroom in a creative, forward-looking vision.
Casa Magis expresses the joy … with many new products and a constant stylistic evolution.
MAGIS NEW PRODUCTS 2022
Aka

design Konstantin Grcic
A new experiment by Konstantin Grcic has given rise to Aka, a piece of seating furniture somewhere between a stool and a sculpture made of multilayer beech wood, which is presented in its natural state and in two color variants and combines the function of two chairs with a strict geometry.
Aka – Also Known As … Stool – testifies to the designer’s great expertise in the field of cabinetmaking, but also to his uncompromising focus on sustainability.
Once again, formal rigor combined with Grcic’s humanistic approach to design produces a simple object that interprets the fundamentals of project planning with ingenuity and a touch of irony.
Designer: Konstantin Grcic

Konstantin Grcic (*1965) first completed an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker at Parnham College (Dorset, England), followed by a master’s degree in design at the Royal College of Art in London. With his studio Konstantin Grcic Design, he works from Berlin on various projects in the fields of industrial and furniture design, exhibition design and collaborations in the fields of architecture and fashion.
In addition to Magis, his producers include Artek, Authentics, Cassina, ClassiCon, Flos, Flötotto, Kettal, Laufen, Mattiazzi, Muji, Mutina, Nespresso, Plank, Serafino Zani and Vitra. His clients in the fashion and lifestyle sector include Audi, Hugo Boss, Issey Miyake, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Rado and smart/Daimler.
Many of his products have been awarded international design prizes. He received the Compasso d’Oro in 2001 for the Mayday lamp (Flos), in 2011 for the Myto chair (Plank) and in 2016 for the OK lamp (Flos). In 2011, he received the German Design Award in Gold for Tom and Jerry from the series The Wild Bunch by Magis.
The world’s most important design museums (including MoMA New York and the Pompidou Center in Paris) have included his designs in their permanent collections.
Grcic defines function in relation to human needs and combines formal rigor with intellectual acuity and humour. His work is characterized by a careful examination of the history of art, design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials.
Alpina

design Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby
Alpina is a design by the British designer duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby and represents the new archetype of the chair with a view to holistic sustainability. The chair is inspired by a classic model from the alpine furniture tradition. Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have created an elegant and versatile new chair that fits into both traditional and more modern settings.
The new seat features simple, clean lines that are both curved and supple, combined with a natural or stained solid FSC-certified ash frame and a backrest made from 100% bio-based, injection-molded plastic generated entirely from cooking oil waste. 100% biodegradable.
Alpina is the fourth project for Magis by London-based designers Barber and Osgerby, who once again present their multidisciplinary approach, characterized by experimentation and the desire to bring together clean lines and different materials.
The collaboration with Barber and Osgerby began in 2007 with the Birds on a Wire wall coat rack and continued in 2010 with the design for the Four Leaves coat rack and the Poppins umbrella holder. Alpina is available in three versions: seat and legs in natural ash with olive green or beige backrest and seat and legs in black lacquered ash with black backrest. Suitable for living and contract areas.
Designer: Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby

After graduating in architecture from The Royal College of Art in London, the two designers founded their studio Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby in 1996.
With their research-based approach, Barber & Osgerby have developed collections for Vitra, B&B Italia, Venini, Cappellini, Magis, Swarovski, Flos and Established & Sons, as well as special series of furniture and individual pieces for private and public clients. Barber and Osgerby, both Honorary Doctors of Arts, have lectured all over the world and led workshops in Switzerland at the ECAL art school in Lausanne and at the Vitra Design Museum. Their work is represented in permanent exhibitions all over the world, for example in the V&A Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Design Museum in London and the Art Institute in Chicago.
In addition to Studio Barber & Osgerby, the designer duo founded Universal Design Studio in 2001, which provides creative design consultancy in the fields of architecture, interior design and interior staging and is internationally renowned for its innovative concepts. in 2011, Barber & Osgerby were commissioned to design the torch for the London 2012 Olympic flame, and in the same year MAP was founded, a strategic industrial design studio that uses Barber and Osgerby’s creative and business skills to deliver visionary design concepts, art direction and research to highly ambitious clients.
Bouquet

design BrogliatoTraverso
Bouquet is a portable table lamp that doubles as a flower vase. It is available in six monochrome colors that allow numerous combinations thanks to the removable flower vase. This small, rechargeable lamp was created by designers Brogliato and Traverso, who founded the studio of the same name in 2014, and is a prime example of the two designers‘ approach: the simplification and design of everyday objects, whose functions are multiplied with just a few details so that they offer unexpected uses. In this way, the light becomes a surprising decorative element of a floral arrangement indoors or outdoors, creating a perfect atmosphere.
Designer: BrogliatoTraverso

Alberto Brogliato and Federico Traverso graduated from the University of Architecture in Venice after gaining various experiences that allowed them to learn the Murano glass art and the processing of traditional ceramics in Japan, and founded their design studio BrogliatoTraverso in 2014.
With the intention of creating objects that do not belong to any era or context, they formulated their own personal project motto: „NO TIME, NO SPACE“.
Studio BrogliatoTraverso works with subtraction by defining a detailed but barely perceptible sign. With these elegantly chiseled forms, the objects create an intimate, deep empathy with the user and the surrounding space and show respect for both.
In a sophisticated simplification process, projects are created in the service of the individual for various companies.
These collaborations have earned the studio numerous international awards, including the Red Dot Design Award, the German Design Award, IF Design Award, Interior Design Best of Year and the Good Design Award.
Lost

design BrogliatoTraverso
Emptiness is emblematic of the new Lost luminaire, whose leitmotif is the perfect circle in a graphically simple gimmick. Brogliato and Traverso have replaced the classic lampshade with a ring just 2 cm thick, behind which an LED light source is concealed.
The result is a homogeneous and continuous light that is emitted from the entire outside of the ring-shaped lampshade, which stands on a simple rod. The Lost lamp is available as a pendant, floor, ceiling/wall and table lamp and is the archetype of the unmistakable „no time, no space“ design by Studio Brogliato and Traverso: a purist and timeless design that fits into any context. Lost is almost invisible, but full of character and magically immerses the empty space in a dreamlike, contemporary atmosphere.

Riace

design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec once again interact with lines and contrasting shapes to create a new sofa. Riace pays homage to the beautiful home of bronze statues, after which it was named, and is characterized by its impulsive, dynamic rigour. The sculptural yet cuddly Riace sofa has a light structure in white bronze and seems to hold the wide, upholstered seat and backrest in suspension.
The sofa is available in one shape and size and is suitable for both the home and the contract sector. The fabric covers can be matched to the furnishings.
The two designers once again demonstrate their style in an effortless balance between seriousness and lightness, creating a familiar, exciting and lively atmosphere. A design that amazes without overdoing it.
Designer: Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

Ronan Bouroullec (class of 1971) and Erwan Bouroullec (class of 1976) have been working together for almost ten years, an ongoing dialog enriched by two different personalities and a shared concern for careful balance.
In 1997, they exhibited their „Disintegrated Kitchen“ at the Paris Furniture Fair, where they were discovered by Giulio Cappellini and commissioned to create their first industrial design projects. Since 2004, the Bouroullec brothers have also worked with Magis and designed two complete collections, Striped and Steelwood, as well as the Pila chair, Pilo table, Central and Tambour tables and the new Officina collection in 2014.
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec now work for numerous manufacturers, including Vitra, Kvadrat, Magis, Kartell, Established and Sons, Ligne Roset, Axor, Alessi, Issey Miyake, Cappellini, Mattiazzi, Flos, Mutina, Hay and, more recently, Glas Italia and Iittala. In parallel, they pursue their experimental studies as an essential basis for the development of their work at the Galerie kreo in Paris, where four individual exhibitions of the two designers were shown from 2001 to 2012. Occasionally they also work on architectural projects.
awarded Designer of the Year at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2002, they received the Compasso d’Oro in 2011 for the Steelwood chair designed for Magis.
Numerous exhibitions have been dedicated to their work.
In 2012, Phaidon Press published „Works“, a complete monograph on Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Two monographs on the design of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have already been published: Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec – Catalogue de Raison (Paris: Images Modernes / kreo, 2002nd and Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec, (Parisi: Phaidon Press, 2003).
Swing

design Ron Gilad
Ron Gilad transforms the screen into a stage set that can move and create one or more retreats. Swing is a versatile plastic room divider that can be easily opened and closed thanks to a central pivot point: It consists of several panels that rotate on themselves and can pass through like a door or be closed when needed to temporarily divide any room.
The panels are sound-absorbing and made of fire-retardant polyester felt, while the frame is made of anodized aluminium. The room dividers are available in three colors.
Tambour

design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec expand the Tambour coffee table collection. The Tambour coffee tables, based on a 2012 design made of die-cast aluminum, are now presented in a new version: with a table top made of porcelain stoneware.
The new side tables adapt to any environment and are also suitable for outdoor use. The die-cast aluminum legs are polished (for indoor use) and powder-coated (for outdoor use) and are available in two heights, with differently shaped table tops and various colors.

Costume

design Stefan Diez

The modular Costume sofa collection is all about comfort and sustainability: Costume was designed by Stefan Diez for Magis in 2019 and is suitable for both the home and the contract sector.
Costume revolutionizes the concept of modern seating furniture. The system made of 4 mm thick, recycled and recyclable polyethylene with various fabric covers allows countless combinations to meet every living requirement. The concept is very simple: the simple modules can be supplemented with folding armrests and an ottoman, have completely removable covers and enable countless combinations, maximum versatility and sustainability.
This year, two coffee tables made of folded, powder-coated aluminum sheet are being added to the collection. They are designed so that they can be positioned between two seating modules or ottomans, i.e. they do not serve as end elements of a sofa. With charging socket on request.
Designer: Stefan Diez

Stefan Diez, born in Freising in 1971, studied industrial design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart after completing his apprenticeship as a carpenter. he opened his own studio in Munich in 2003.

He is considered one of the most innovative and promising designers.
Stefan Diez works intensively with different materials and technologies, constantly exploring their limits. With his studio, he develops products which, in their precision and simplicity, serve the needs of everyone.
Officina

design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
The Officina collection is an attempt to create a new creative language by exploring an age-old technique such as blacksmithing. The collection designed by brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, which was launched in 2014 with the tables, has a new element this year: a bookcase that can be attached to the wall.
An uncluttered, rigorous piece of furniture that captivates with the purity of its lines and utmost functionality, while at the same time displaying a weightlessness that gives it a dynamic, unexpected momentum. The wrought iron is the aesthetic signature of the entire collection and is reflected in the simple, anthracite gray lacquered frame, which is complemented by shelves made of MDF boards – black lacquered or veneered walnut.
The shelves are available in two lengths, 1 and 2 meters. The 1-meter version of the shelf is also available with a writing tablet.

Big Will

design Philippe Starck

The iconic Big Will table, designed by Philippe Starck, is also being presented in a new version. Big Will was created almost 10 years ago with the intention of creating an unconventional extendable table and once again opens a new creative chapter for Magis.
It is made of die-cast aluminum and, as always, ahead of its time in its perfect combination of functionality and style: on one side it features the classic legs, on the other two wheels, also made of die-cast aluminum, which allow it to be extended with a simple movement by pulling out one end of the table.
The table is now available in three new finishes: in porcelain stoneware with a glossy marble effect in the Calacatta and Marquinia versions and in white wood. Sober, modern and simply ingenious.
Designer: Philippe Starck

„Subversive, ethical, ecological, political, humorous: that’s how I see my duty as a designer.“ Philippe Starck
Thousands of completed or ongoing projects, his worldwide fame and his tireless, changeable inventive spirit should never distract from Philippe Starck’s fundamental vision: creation, in whatever form, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. Starck is a fierce defender of this poetic and political, rebellious and benevolent, pragmatic and subversive duty that should be shared by all. He sums it up with a sense of humor that has set him apart from everyone else from the very beginning: „No one has to be a genius, but everyone has to participate.“
His early awareness of ecological impact, his enthusiasm for inventing new lifestyles, his determination to change the world, his love of ideas, his drive to defend usable intelligence – and intelligent usability – have led him from one cult creation to the next. From everyday products, furniture and lemon squeezers to revolutionary mega yachts, hotels as dreamlike venues that stimulate all the senses and individual wind turbines. He is not only raising the bar for himself, but also for contemporary design.
His technical marvels are vectors of a democratic ecology, geared towards action and respect for the future of man and nature. Anticipating the phenomenon of convergence and dematerialization, Philippe Starck has always designed objects that demand a maximum from a minimum. His dream is solutions – solutions so decisive that he was the first Frenchman to be invited to the TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design) conferences alongside famous participants such as Bill Clinton and Richard Branson.
Philippe Starck is an inventor, creator, architect, designer and artistic director, but above all he is an honest man directly descended from the artists of the Renaissance.
