Idea of the launderette
The vision of the Laundromat Villabassa is to create an open space that offers concrete help to people in difficult life situations. They can do their laundry there cheaply, experience a sense of belonging and support that provides stability and opens up new perspectives. Over the past 170 years, the Foundation’s diverse commitment to diaconal and pastoral work has given rise to various projects, virtually all of which have become independent and still exist today. www.stiftung-eg.ch. Style
We want to open a stylish laundromat with a social character and purpose in Zurich. It should be inviting and attractive and attract other groups of people in addition to the socially disadvantaged target group and offer a healthy mix and space for other activities in an atmospheric space.

How it works
We have two professional washing machines and dryers from the Schulthess professional line that are equipped for all challenges. You don’t need any detergent either, as the machine feeds in the perfect amount.
During the wash, there is time for a coffee, to look for an apartment or to apply for a job on the PC on site, or simply to take a little break in the lounge area.
Anyone who doesn’t have to do laundry at the moment but would like to support the launderette or is interested in the project is welcome to drop by and take a look at the various options with Daniela or Marianne.
For one wash & dry (up to 8kg) you pay CHF 5. If you have a spare CHF 5, you can simply and easily sponsor a washing jeton for someone in need – we distribute them via our social partners so that they arrive at the right place in any case. If you’re short of pennies: We have a few contact points where you can get washing jetons for free.
Patrons of the construction
The construction of the launderette was made possible by the very generous support of various sponsors and the active help of our volunteers.
Without the generous donation from Schulthess Maschinen AG, we would not have been able to get started. With their professional machines, we are on the safe side even during continuous operation, which is simply a good feeling.
The Soda Studios AG put its heart and soul into the creation and implementation of the concept.
HGC, which sponsored the tiles for the laundrette, has here reported on it here. We are very happy about the donation, easy to use (yay!) and simply great colors!
Dilly Socks simply put us in a good mood – and help in a very tangible way: they provide us with cheerful, fairly produced socks that are otherwise often missing from clothing donations.
Zuriga keeps us going in other ways: the fine coffee machine provides our guests and employees with hot coffee for fresh energy or a quiet minute in the waiting area and is now practically part of the family.
Brauchli Treuhand AG very selflessly gave us a fantastic illuminated sign to mark the 20th anniversary of the company, which now clearly shows the way to fresh laundry.
HeinzerIT patiently helped us set up the PC and gave us some useful accessories.
There are also some private and partly anonymous donors to whom we would also like to erect a memorial: It is thanks to them that the launderette could be expanded to this level. It is an incredible gift that has touched us deeply.
Numerous volunteers supported us during the Community Days and invested many hours in painting, assembling furniture, grouting tiles and making the launderette what it should be: a community project that provides concrete help and simply makes life a little easier.
